President Ross called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m.
The Pledge was led by Mike Nicholls.
Herman G. gave a message.
We spontaneously erupted into "God Bless America" after scratching our heads for a few moments for a song suggestion.
Visiting Rotarians: None.
Guests of Rotarians: Chris Gulledge
Correspondence: We had two Thank You notes from our El Molino Scholarship awardees. Another FFA student asked us to buy her rabbits at the County Fair!
Announcements:
Plaza Concert this Thursday! David LaFlamme and It's a Beautiful Day.
Herman announced the first Crab Feed meeting will be in a couple of weeks when he returns from Mexico full of energy.
Michael Nicholls will be speaking on the subject of broadband at the Gualala Rotary Club on 10/17.
Ross was caught on the streets of Monte Rio at 8:30 a.m. in his blue check PJ's by an observant Chuck. Ross apologized for not reflecting the Presidency or the Club in the best light!
Discussion was had of the Bohemian Show by those who attended.
As we ran out of time at Ross's last meeting, he caught us up on the outcome of the last board meeting. The board approved $1,000 for the El Molino High School Foundation.
It was approved that up to 10% of the Foundation income will be allowed to administer the programs so not all the costs will fall on the Club Budget.
Rather than having many recipients of funds in our Foundation Budget, we will have a grant program where groups can apply for funding by proposing their needs.
Family members of existing members will have a reduced dues rate of $125 (the first member will continue to pay $175).
For prospective Club members, the Club will continue to pay for the first two meals for the prospect. On the third meeting, the prospect or their sponsor will be responsible for payment.
Happy Bucks: None :(
Fines: Ross was fined $5 for his PJ's appearance, and Chuck $5 for pointing it out!
Herman G. and Knud were fined a buck for missing their pins. Herman J. $3 for no pin or badge!
Mike Torr was nabbed for $2 for being late.
Chuck, Daniela, Herman G., Herman J., and Kim
were each fined $2 "just because" they had better seats at the Bohemian Show than our President.
Raffle: Brendan won the draw, but pulled a 9 of clubs...
Program: Herman G. gave his vocational talk. He told us of early memories of Guerneville and Guerneville School. His participation in soccer, baseball, basketball, and eventually football in High school. He spoke of the benefits of having Sam Pullaro as his godfather when finding himself in trouble at Guerneville School! Alas, his sports career was cut short after suffering 6 shoulder dislocations in 6 months.
After moving on to San Diego State, Herman wound up majoring in International Business. Unfortunately this meant he has to spend a semester in Spain! During his time at SDSU he joined the business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi. He told us a bit about his rise to Master of Rituals. He also spent 2 years participating in Rotaract.
After graduation, Herman found work with Safe Routes For School, Harvard Bio Science, and TTI as a sales rep. He's now working part time for Herman J., studying for his real estate license, and running for the school board!
Welcome Herman G.!
