Anders, Lt. Gen. Wladyslaw. Russian Volunteers in Hitler's Army, 1941-1945. Bayside, NY: Axis Europa, 1997.
ISBN 1-891227-01-7 Acknowledgment; maps; photos; OBs; Reading List. Lieutenant General Wladysaw Anders, better known as commander of the Polish Corps during the Italian campaign, after the war authored An Army in Exile about the forces he commanded and Hitler's Defeat in Russia about the Russian Front. In this short (under 60 pages) and lesser known work, Anders explains the history of Russian formations in German service under former Soviet General Andrei Vlasov. Anders' overview of the Russian Army of Liberation is complemented by Tony Munoz of Axis Europa who has edited and annotated the original text to include notes and additions from his years of research into obscure Axis combat formations. This additional material greatly increases the value and utility of the book. Of particular interest are the OBs -- also annotated by Munoz -- of the Russian units, giving not only their IDs and composition but also the names and ranks of all the principal officers. As with most of the works from Axis Europa, not a thrilling or wildly popular topic, but a useful discussion of a murky matter. Available from online booksellers, local bookshops, or directly from Axis Europa. Thanks to Axis Europa for providing this review copy.
