News from Joe Balkoski Author Joe Balkoski sends this update: "I am just about finished with my manuscript covering the Utah Beach invasion and the operations of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, as well as the U.S. Ninth Air Force on D-Day. (The Ninth AF provided IX Troop Carrier Command -- nearly 1,000 C-47s for the airborne drop -- and IX Bomber Command, which provided more than 300 B-26 Marauders to bomb Utah prior to H-Hour. "This will be a companion volume to my Omaha Beach: June 6, 1944, which was just released in March 2004. Among the characters you will learn about in this book are MGs Ridgway, Taylor, Collins, and Barton; BGs Roosevelt, Gavin, Pratt, and McAuliffe; Cols. Sink, "Jumpy" Johnson, Van Fleet, Reeder, and many more. "Look for the book to be published by Stackpole in the late summer of 2005. "I encourage anyone with good source material related to Utah and the Airborne drops to contact me. It's not too late!"

Planned for unveiling on 1 September 2004, we expect our online War Diary to be the most inclusive and detailed WWII chronology ever assembled, with daily entries for all the usual events plus many more entries such as individual ship sinkings, U-Boat losses, strategic bombing missions, convoy sailings, etc. Not only that, but every individual entry will include a link to a complete bibliography of books covering that specific event.
