A brief history of this site

In 1996, as a volunteer for the Great Pyrenees Club of Calfornia, I began putting together this website. I collected articles and obtained permission to use them, wrote numerous articles, and found statistics, photos and, over the years, nearly 200 links.

The purpose of the web site was, and is, to help people find information about the breed and let them know what other solidly-researched information is available, and if possible, link them to it.

Over 250,000 people have visited this site in the past year alone.* I am grateful to have the opportunity to help people by providing these resources, and hope to continue as long as I am able.

Although the website has always been registered to me and is, legally and morally, my personal intellectual property, I had donated this website to GPCC as a service to the club, allowing its use as the club website for free, and volunteering five to ten hours a week to keep it up to date for the club.

In 2002, as the GPCC board composition changed, the new board members decided they would prefer to produce a different club website, and so it is and shall be. Thus this site is now my personal website and my personal volunteer service to the breed.

I might add that in November 2003, because I had earlier placed a notice on this website that the GPCC board no longer wanted this to be the official website, that GPCC board voted to censure me for my impudence. I will leave it to you to decide the meaning of that vote. As for me, I continue to be devoted to providing information about this important and historic breed, and welcome your comments, advice about further resources and feedback on the site.
