Asian Folktales
 |
Pungent tales of dragons and wisdom collected from all over Asia.
I have traveled to Taiwan, China, Inner Mongolia, Singapore, Bali and Thailand and bring affection and detail to the stories I tell.
I studied for a BA degree in Asian Art History in Taiwan. My Master's in History thesis was on Chinese Teahouse Telling.
When I travel in China, I always ask if anyone knows stories. Sometimes I find someone, and we swap tales. Most recently I told
bilingually in a traditional teahouse with a master teller, to the amazement and amusement of the locals.
From PU SONGLING
My family lives along the River Huai in Shandong, just like my father and my father’s father for generations. They call me
Fisherman Hsu. I may not look like I know much, but I have a story to tell. Do you like ghost stories? I did not as a child,
but I am comfortable with them now. We did not always catch so much fish and we sometimes had not a single copper cash. But it
made me happy seeing my wife frying up fish with black beans and garlic, and seeing my little ones happily splashing in the
mud. After all, "Wine tastes as good from the jug as from a jade cup!"
