Who is God?

It would be natural to turn to dictionaries and encyclopedias to answer the question "Who is God?" But these definitions give only a one-dimensional view of the One whom we seek, and we're certainly not restricted to those dry descriptions. The Bible says that everyone everywhere has a limited knowledge of who God is. In Romans, chapter one, we are told that by simply looking at nature and the world around us, we can see that these things did not evolve or develop by chance. There is a Designer who is wise enough and powerful enough to bring into existence such a magnificent creation. We can know something about God by merely looking at the creation around us.

However, knowing about God as Creator is just a fraction of what can be known about God. In fact, God was so concerned about us knowing Him, He took the unbelievable step of becoming human Himself to reveal His love for us. In the person of Jesus Christ, God made it very clear that His intention in creating us was that we would share life with Him. He is a Creator who wants to share the joy of His life with His creation. If you want to know who God is, read the Gospels of John or Luke and study the person of Jesus. Because He is God, He perfectly reveals the character and nature of God. But don't stop with just reading about Jesus. Ask God to make Himself real to you. Through personal experience you can really know God. "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me." Revelation, Chapter 3, Verse 20 (NIV)
