The
Decorative Fence as a Colonial-Williamsburg Weave
Here
we look at the #23 Cedar Fence Designl with a solid lower plank coupled with
an upper pattern that has its historical heritage rooted in the 1700's.
With
the Wood Fence #23, in Kent Woodlands, CA we move away from the solid lower plank
in lieu of the more open lower pickets.
------ A 1918 residence on seven landscaped acres where we have modified the #23 pattern slightly to mimic the original Colonial Weave porch railings.
Known locally as the Kent Mansion, the property was purchased by an east coast family who spent their summers here. Thus relegating the house to an unoccupied state 9 months a year and consequently withdrawing from the neighborhood itself the opportunity of living breathing residence.
We
first employed the Colonial Weave with gate style #23, borrowed and modified
from one of the original 20 gates designed by Thomas Jefferson
for the University of Virginia. Creating this school, both the
architecture as well as the curriculum, was the last great undertaking
of a man who was in his 80's at the time. *
