1) A typical Wood Gate within the 50
States arrives by either A) FedEx Freight, B) Delivered by courier
or the shops if you are within range of the shop location, or 3) The
product is picked up at the shop. If you order an item, we will provide
a delivery or shipping quote. FedEx may have an additional charge for
redeliveries or difficult access. We will not be responsible for any
of these charges. When items are shipped motor freight, the items become
the property of the purchaser when they leave our dock. Motor freight
companies may have strict policies regarding damaged freight. If you
sign for a damaged package without noting the damage at the time of
the delivery, they will often not allow the claim. If you detect some
damage to the crate, please make a note of this on the Bill of Lading
the driver will ask you to sign. You do not need to refuse delivery
or ask the driver to wait. Your signed note will be sufficient in the
event of a claim. Please make sure you understand the shipping options
and how your order will ship before placing an order.
Relax. We use durable, ribbed crates.
As of summer 2009, only one shipment has arrived with damage. This,
in June 2003, involved a small break on a single rail of a single
panel and CPW replaced it without question. The fault was ours.
If you are east of the Mississippi River,
you may be charged an additional fee of approximately $80 if the
driver feels he cannot unload your crate without either the help
of someone on site or the use of a lift-gate. The extra $80
is the charge for a lift-gate
Furthermore:
Dealing with a motor freight carrier is a little different than when
delivered by courier or by the shops. As union drivers, they are
required to deliver to the base of your driveway only. For
a small stipend, they will often use their hand-jack to roll the
crate to the garage. Although single Gates can be handled by a single
driver, Drive Gates and multiple fence panels can be quite heavy.
If there is assistance on the receiving end, it can often avoid re-scheduling
the delivery to include the added cost of a lift-gate.
