This web site, featuring Garden Gates, Driveway Gates, Fences, Arbors, Wood Benches and Porch Swings, extends to some 700+ pages and 2,000 images. It is best considered in stages:

The Garden Gate: In the early 90's, drawing on a rare combination of skills developed decades earlier through an apprenticeship with his father (a custom homebuilder)--his grandfather (a furnituremaker), and his mother (an artist/illustrator), Prowell considered the methods required to design and produce a Wood Gate of exterior joinery, exposed to the elements and subject to dimensional changes with the changing seasons. Garden Gates with the complicated joinery and integrity of his years as a furniture designer/craftsman, combined with the understanding of how wooden structures need to breathe. Those master woodworkers and furniture makers with an understanding of the complicated art of joining wood have little experience with releasing their work to the ravages of rain, snow, and freezes. Those journeyman carpenters who commonly work with this in mind, in turn have no understanding of advanced joinery and wood movement.

--There is no hardware in the Wooden Gates. There are no screws or nails or metal straps. There is only the joinery, a practiced and long developed eye for design, and a product drawn from countless prototypes that will not sag and will stand proud as a work to be appreciated for decades. Prowell's Fence Gate is commissioned world wide, and every commissions begins here, on this site.

--Concurrently, Prowell's Wood Fence Design establishes the high watermark for this genre. It is a tragedy to find the finely-crafted homes and grounds embellished with the same Wooden Fence available to the tract-home developer; this first-impression view of any property relegated to the same inferior woods cobbled into the same wooden fencelines by carpenters and their framing hammers. Once again, Prowell's Garden Fence relies on joinery, the highest grade of clear dry Port Orford Cedar, and an eye for design first developed as a young apprentice under his father grandfather, mother, and later as a graduate of Southern Illinois University, studying Architecture, Art, and Design--under Buckminster Fuller--and ultimately from his 31 years in business--designing, developing, and crafting innovative works of art.

Driveway Gates are offered on Gallery 2, as either 2-1/4" thickness or 3" thickness with embedded steel frames.  The designs and style and methods of construction are complimentary to the Wood Gate and Fence.  Almost all of the Garden Gate Design options are available as a Driveway Gate.

Recently, we have brought to fruition our Outdoor Garden Column as Landscape Lighting Bollards and Gate Post Wraps after three years of prototypes and testing. First initiated as Architectural Columns to flank the Wood Gate, in lighted or unlighted models, these remarkable products stretch an existing genre toward a series of subsequent offerings as the Garden Column, looking to upend the long-standing choices for Low Voltage Landscape Lighting.  The Wood Columns are now available for such uses as 1) Bollard Exterior Lighting for wall-tops and pilasters;  2) Asa Bollard Light mounted atop mailbox pillars; 3) As Garden Art Bollard Lights along paths and walkways; 4) And as free-standing Assemblies considered as Garden Sculpture as well as a form of Exterior Lighting within the garden.

With the newest Lighting Towers #17, 18, & 19 on Gallery 5, extending in size to 3' x 3' x 9-1/2' in height, we turn to a product design that defies categorizing. Lighted with low voltage LED's, these towers were developed as architectural placements for public landscapes.

A new Post Cap arriving in late 2006.  Single and double-tiered styles designed to embellish posts flanking our Fences and Gates.  For both 4x4 and 6x6 posts.

--An extensive selection of signatory Arbors designed as extension assemblies to your existing Gate or Pilaster openings. As a Gate Arbor, they arrive fully assembled and simply mount onto the tops of the Gate posts.   As a Garden Arbor, they accentuate masonry wall openings or find their way anywhere within the landscape as an architectural detail.   And within this same gallery, the Garden Trellis, intended to mount against a side-wall or as a free-standing ornament.

Finally, a few Garden Benches and Front Porch Swings found on Gallery 6.
