Tarek at the Liquid List sits down with the Dean rally video and finds that the infamous "yelp" really has been ripped wildly out of context:
[T]hen he goes into the bit that's getting sampled so much and it flows quite nicely, actually, with Dean having to get louder to shout over his roaring band of supporters, and clearly responding to signage or signals in the audience of out-of-state volunteers to name their states. The yelp is still funny, but it's funny like a surprising "wooo" at a football game from a fan who's been "wooo"-ing too long, not like a madman on the corner with pet rats or whatever.
So, as we've found so many times before, those who bother to look deeper into the context and substance find a very different result from those who stay within the televised image's rhetorical blinders.
