The AP reports that some drivers are offending others with porn movies playing on their in-car TV screens. In Michigan, an elected official thinks there should be a law:
"Residents should not be subjected to those obscenities," said Flint City Councilwoman Carolyn Sims, who is examining whether an ordinance packing a $500 fine is needed. "They do have a right to have peace and tranquility and not to have this exposure to sex in their face."
But there already is a law -- in fact, two laws: one against displaying sexually explicit material in public, and one against watching TV while driving.
That's the unique legacy of American democracy: we legislate away common sense, one law at a time.
