Ed Gillespie, hipster dad

Continuing our "it's cool to be conservative" memewatch... The Republican National Committee is sending its propaganda voter-registration truck, Reggie the Registration Rig, to MTV for an appearance on Total Request Live:

RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie will be on hand, espousing the youths' right to vote for the right wing.

RNC spokeswoman Heather Layman said Gillespie should blend in well with the screaming teens usually stationed outside the studio.

"Chairman Gillespie has three kids of his own, and the oldest is a teenager, so he is no stranger to MTV and `TRL,'" Layman said. "He's hip enough to know how important it is, so I think he'll have fun."

Translation: Having kids means you know what's cool.

Riiiight.

The kids on TRL will cheer and scream, of course (because of the mob mentality operative at these sorts of things), but after it's over they'll go home and snicker and make crude Reggie jokes. Kids have x-ray vision for uncool artifice, especially that which -- like the very name "Reggie the Registration Rig" -- treats them like they're still four years old.
