Shoshone roadcut 2

Second view of the Shoshone cut. You can see where a block has split and dropped along a faultline in the center of the photo. Buff volcanics (tuff and rhyolitic pumice) at the top, the reddish block at the bottom of the block on the right is a gritty conglomerate. I picked up about a pound of this in fragments and soil, which I plan to use as pigment in a painting sometime.

This page has some geology field notes on the same roadcut. Scroll down or search for "Shoshone".
