Father: Since America Cheatham and Anderson Wade named their
son Obediah, she may have been related to Obediah Cheatham who
died in Spencer County, Kentucky, about 1837. In his will,
dated 24 Aug 1836 and proved 2 Oct 1837, Obediah (Obadiah)
Cheatham named his wife Lucy Cheatham; daughters Dolly Cheatham
and Sally Russell; and son John Wesley Green Cheatham. The
wife and son were named as executors. The will was witnessed by
John Cochran and Thomas J. Martin who also secured the bond of
administration for the executors (Spencer County, Kentucky,
Records, Volume III)
Before Anderson Wade and America Cheatham were married in 1831,
Obediah Cheatham appeared on the 1830 Census for Spencer County
with a female, aged 15-20, in residence with him, who could
have been America (U.S. Census Microcopy 19, Roll 41, page
319):
Obadiah Cheatham
1 Male age 60-70 (Obadiah)
3 Male age 10-15 (John)
1 Female age 50-60 (Lucy)
2 Female age 15-20 (Sally, America?)
1 Female age 10-15 (Dolly)
William Cheatham, who was enumerated in Spencer County in 1830
as aged 20-30, probably was a son of Obediah (page 319):
William Cheatham
1 Male age 20-30 (William)
1 Male age 0- 5 (? )
1 Female age 50-60 (in-law?)
1 Female age 20-30 (wife?)
1 Female age 10-15 (?____)
1 Female age 5-10 (?____)
1 Female age 0- 5 (?____)
