SUPERIOR SALES STAFF

Superior Sales Staff is a growing business that strives to provide excellent, competent help for horse sales across the country. Our main focus is the racing Thoroughbred sales, though we do attend Quarter Horse sales as well. We are looking for focused individuals who wish to further their career. Last year, we sent staff to Kentucky to work the sales at Keeneland and Pomona to work the Barretts Equine Limited Sales. This coming year, we will be sending staff to these and other equine sales. If you need sales help, please contact Dave Newcomb at (530)284-6681 or e-mail us at walkingg@yahoo.com. If you feel you are qualified to become a member of Superior Sales Staff, please contact us at the number or e-mail address shown above for an interview. If you are interested in learning how to become a showman, please read about our Equine Sales Preparation & Showmanship Course below....

The objective of this session is to focus on different apsects of horsemanship for kids of the ages 13 and up. This allows participants to have more time working with horses as well as work with others closer to their own age. Campers in this session will learn many of the advanced aspects to owning, riding and sale preping horses. Qualified participants will also be given the oppertunity to help out at a proffesional Thoroughbred sale in October with the Walking G Consignment and horses they helped to prepare during the summer.

  • Preparing a horse for sale time
  • "Topping-off" a horse quickly just before showing
  • Handling spirited horses
  • Fitting a sale halter correctly
  • Attaching & using a chifney bit, twitch, lip chain, and nose chain correctly and humanely
  • Simple equine first aid
  • Raking a herringbone pattern
  • Quickly & thoroughly cleaning a stall
  • Correctly caring for leather
  • Use & application of leg wraps

And the skills to help you correctly prepare a horse for a sale:

  • Breaking & Training the young horse

  • Nutrition: Feeds & Supplements
  • Worming/Vaccination
  • Blanketing

Other activities planned include: Trips to Thoroughbred farms to see famous California Sires and to race tracks -sometimes we even get to watch our own Walking G bred horses run. Lectures and demonstrations from other proffesional horsmen. Trail rides and arena work on horses. Moonlit trail rides are a favorite as well.Of course we will also hike to the Genessee Store for a Thursday evening treat, spend days hanging out at the lake....etc.
