Arcata’s water supply systemWhat it does
The city’s water supply system obtains water from the Mad River. The water arrives from Humboldt Bay Municipal Utility District’s pipe at the Alliance valve station where it is metered, fluoridated, and chlorinated as deemed necessary by health authorities.
From there it is distributed to a network of 15 computer-controlled sites for storage in metal and wooden tanks throughout the city at various elevations.
The water then flows by gravity to individual households.
approximately 10,000 people use the water
approximately 2.5 million gallons of drinking water are supplied daily
Only a handful of people are required to accomplish this task
