SEX-N- PRISON
by Achim Rodgers
It is nonsense to believe that once a psychosexually mature individual
is incarcerated, he or she becomes nonsexual. Sex-N-Prison is a critical
issue. Studies have shown that years of depriving prisoners of intimacy
with their biological counterpart perverts their sexuality and contributes
to their ill health and higher level of violence, ultimately becoming a
societal problem when they are released. This barbarous unnecessary deprivation
of the humanity of prisoners results in (1) increased violence and perversion,
(2) rapes, (3) promotion of homosexuality, and (4) sexual abuse of women
and a dysfunctional sex life when free.
Many would say, "You should have thought of that before you committed
a crime." The macho prisoners would add, "You're weak if you allow
something like that to bother you." We know all too well the results
of the draconian suppression of instincts and feelings that produces this
kind of pseudo-machismo. Denying human beings the right to engage in sexual
intimacy with their biological counterpart is the equivalent of rape, the
rape of an individual's humanity. We must grow up, drop our shame, and admit
that human sexuality is a major factor in our lives and not some nonessential
extracurricular activity. This ring of silence hurts, dehumanizes, and causes
grievous harm to all, including society.
This is a call for a legislative Bill of Human Rights creating Conjugal
Visits for ALL prisoners.
