Questions Your Local Drug Cops Don't Want Asked

1. How come almost any long-time rural resident knows where the big dope dealers are, but only the cops can't find their way there to bust them?

2. If these long-time residents were public-spirited enough to finger these big-time dealers, would the cops protect the residents and their kids? How long would they live?

3. If drug cops were required to submit a copy of their Income Tax Returns to a confidential blue-ribbon panel of accountants, what do you think these experts would find? And what percentage of these returns would survive a formal audit?

4. Suppose you asked the Drug Task Force to supply a statistical breakdown of their arrests, do you think they would share that information with you? Or would they tell you to mind your own business?

5. And if you could have an accurate statistical break-down of drug busts, how many of these would involve (a) street pushers and users, (b) couriers ("mules") and transporters of major dealers, (c) the big shots themselves?

6. If you could check into the Drug Evidence Locker to compare kinds and amounts of Drugs being Held for Evidence in Court and Drugs Destroyed After Court Disposition, would there be serious discrepancies? And if you questioned the police about them, what would you be told?

7. How long do you think it will take John and Jane Q. Citizen to realize that the drug traders can survive only by corrupting law enforcement?

8. What would your Supervisor, your State Senator, and your Governor say and do if you, the citizen, asked them to demand reliable answers to these questions?

9. If the cops had a fit about being asked these questions and went on strike, en masse, would you be any less safe than you are now?
