Jermont Cox is a 25-year-old death row prisoner who was not convicted of an actual act of murder, had no prior criminal record, and had been employed from 1986 until his January 1993 arrest. The man who did commit the murder was released after his arrest because Jermont refused to falsely testify against him. Another man (with a huge criminal record) was given a deal for charges of robbery, carjacking, drugs, assault, etc. to testify against Jermont, whom he had never met. As a result, two guilty men went home and one innocent man, Jermont Cox, father of a small son, went to Death Row.
