: My living room looks like this:

: ______________________________________________________
: I
: I Tiled hallway
: I _____________
: I Living Room I
: I Dining I
: I Area I
: I I
: I I
: I_________ ____balcony door__I
: I Alcove I
: I I
: I : : I I
: I___window___I

: I have three questions. The first question is which way should I lay the planks? The second question is I know there is a 1/4" expansion gap required at all walls, but where the tile starts at the hallway the tile is even with the wall. If I only leave 1/4" gap how will be able to use a transition piece? And lastly how will I be able to do the alcove? Is it ok to double cut a plank like this to fit at the corners:
: __________
: I_____

Run the planks which ever way you want to. Some say start along the longest wall.

I'm not understanding your question about the tile transition.

What's an alcove? We may have different terms to call it. I have never heard of alcove.
