Hi Jack,
I just realised you said,"I peeled up my lino and saw my subfloor", that should not be your subfloor, it should be your underlayment!

Wally

: Hi Jack,
: I agree that some people may install their hardwood floor over particle board, not to be mistaken for OSB, but it's nothing but trouble, not recommended by Anyone for naildown. If this is gluedown, it may be OK. You'll have to check with the manufacturer as Greg said.
: What's under the particle board? The subfloor may meet the requirements?

: : The carpenter I asked to help me install my hardwood floor thought we could put it over the linoleum in the dining room and kitchen. After picking up my maple this morning and putting it inside the house to acclimate, I peeled back some of the linoleum and I noticed that my subfloor is particleboard. Searching the web I've noted that laying hardwood strips over a particleboard subfloor is not recommended.

:
: : What problems can I expect if I lay the hardwood strips over particle board? Is there any way to minimize the risks? Replacing the particleboard with plywood will send me over budget and use more time than I have. Can anyone give me some assurance that I'm not facing total disaster if I proceed as planned with laying the strips over the linoleum and particleboard?
