We are ready to put in a wood floor but there is an area that needs attention. There is a doorway between two rooms, all the way at the edge of the room on the south wall. The subfloor right at the wall is about 1/2 " lower than the middle of the doorway because of a joist under the plywood that hits right at the middle of the doorway. We need to raise the edge of the floor right at the wall so it's level but aren't sure how to do it. Should we remove the plywood piece there, lay a strip of the proper thickness right at the edge and then replace the plywood? Is it alright to leave the gap that would create under the plywood from where the new strip ends & the too-high joist sits? Should we put a material with some give under there? Like what?
This is hard to explain, hope you can understand what I'm trying to say.
We are do it yourselfers by necessity so would like to manage it ourselves, if possible.
Thanks very much for any help you can give.
