Thank you all for your thoughts. I do however have four children and a Giant Schnauzer. I am concerned about hardwood flooring for this reason. I wondered about epoxy floors in some areas maybe with a design or something? I have given alot of thought to ceramic in the entrance and such. No marble though I'm afraid, not only out of the price range but I forgot to mention that this will be a straw post and beam dwelling so I don't think marble would suit well!
