: Thank you all for your thoughts. I do however have four children and a Giant Schnauzer. I am concerned about hardwood flooring for this reason. I wondered about epoxy floors in some areas maybe with a design or something? I have given alot of thought to ceramic in the entrance and such. No marble though I'm afraid, not only out of the price range but I forgot to mention that this will be a straw post and beam dwelling so I don't think marble would suit well!
I may be a little late in response to your question. I have an exposed adobe home. Our interior floor is clay brick with sanded joints. It is indestructable easy to maintain and never looks as dirty as it is. It is freindly to install as there are no mortars or grouts involved. If your home sits on a concrete slab contacting the earth under, then you may lay the brick with out any further substrate requirements. There is enough information available for you to accomplish this yourselves. Congradualtions on your straw home I am in awe of those dwellings.
