Recently a friend of ours visited Parc Floral Phoenix in Nice,  France. It is special place in that it is home to the world's largest indoor conservatory.

Parc Floral Phoenix is among the newest and foremost botanical centers in the world. Sumptuous grounds with breathtaking vistas...    full of fountains, waterfalls and plants from around the world.

One of the highlights of the Parc Phoenix is a glass pyramid conservatory. It is the largest facility of it's kind. One of the world's most technological greenhouses it simultaneously controls 7 tropical climates allowing the growth of some of the rarest species.

It is reached by walking along pathways lined with flowing water, the sound of the water luring you to continue walking further into the park. The outside gardens are divided into ecologically diverse areas.

As you enter the conservatory you are greeted by a vine  bearing wide marbled brown flowers with yellow throats. They are suspended 5 to 10 feet above the ground. But what makes them truly spectacular are their size - they're larger then a human head (Aristholochia gigantea from Panama).

The high ceilings emphasize the height of the towering palms. It isn't possible begin describing the variety of giant ferns, the rainbow of orchids, hibiscus, ginger and other tropical flowers that fill the "The Green Diamond". Everything is clearly labeled and arranged to show off each plant's unique properties. Ancient ruins, objects d'art, water features, birds and butterflies add to the pleasure of strolling through the different environments.

A visit to the Parc Floral Phoenix de Nice is a feast to the eyes and senses. It is truly a magical place and not to be missed when visiting the gardens of the French Riviera.
