Types of Studies 1 2 | Methods and Tools
Program Evaluation can inform program development as well as assess impacts on users. It can also provide valuable information for potential funders about the effectiveness of your programming. Interviews, surveys, questionnaires, follow-up studies, observation and even pre- and post-tests can be used to evaluate programs.
User Studies employ a variety of techniques to assess how visitors and the wider community use and perceive your facility. This type of research can help inform interpretive master planning. It also reveals how your facility fits into local competition for the "edutainment" dollar.
Visitor Satisfaction Studies are an effective way to understand how well every part of your facility is meeting visitor needs and expectations. Attending to the visitor experience before, during and after their time on site can serve as a unifying focus throughout the institution. VSS applies well-established research techniques from the commercial/marketing world to the special needs of educational leisure settings.
Specialized Studies can be created to meet virtually any research need. Working with your staff to meet the challenges of unusual research projects is fun and fascinating.

"Through Wendy’s work, we gained important insights into program strengths and needs, providing a meaningful basis for planning the coming two years. Until Wendy summarized her methodology and findings for the staff, I don’t think most of us realized how much program assessment can help us avoid ‘spinning our wheels’. Wendy is competent, creative, and flexible -- a joy to work with."

Projects Coordinator and Darkened Waters Curator,
