The Countship of Ponthieu occupies the region of the Channel coast near the mouth of the Somme river and lying to the northeast of Normandy. It contains the town and battlefield of Crecy. The title-holder was probably Jacques I de Bourbon who was also Count de la Marche.
The town, archdiocese, and Countship of Amiens lies on the Somme river about sixty miles almost due north of Paris. This is obviously one of my later choices of shields to paint - attempting a field of ivy being much too ambitious for me when I was just beginning! It is these sorts of arms that I later on wished I had painted for one of the mounted knights instead of the simpler arms. Well... maybe next army...
The town, duchy, and Dioces of Laon lies sixty-file miles northeast of Paris, and about 15 miles southeast of Fargniers. It was an ecclesiastical holding, the bearer having the title of “archbishop-duke”.
The town and Diocese of Beauvais lies forty miles north northwest of Paris, very close to Crevecoeur and the Countship of Clermont. Philippe, bother of Count Charles III of Alençon, was bishop of Beauvais 1356
