One of my earlier efforts, although with this group I can always declare that the good ’ol boys from Macon County are going to open up a can of wup-ass on you-uns.

The town and Countship of Mâcon is found in the Rhone valley about forty miles north of Lyon. In 1239 the countship was sold to the French crown.

The town and Countship of Auxerre is about 125 miles southwest of Paris. Jean III of Chalon was the title-holder, and can’t possibly be in this army because his is currently imprisoned in London.

The town and Seigneury of Brion is about seventy-five miles north northwest of Lyon. This shield is associated with the Barons of Semur-en-Brionnais, whose line appears to peter out in 1257.

The town and Countship of Chalon-sur-Saône is found about eighty miles north of Lyon. By this time it appears that the countship was attached to Burgundy. And, yes, a shield for Chalon-sur-Saône appears elsewhere in this army. Perhaps it was a heretofore unknown pretender to the countship?
