This is one of my favorite groups. Obviously a later effort as I felt competent enough to take on some more challenging heraldic patterns. When fielding a “short list” of knights I make sure to include them!

The town and Countship of Montmorency lie about ten mile north of Paris. The family of Montmorency is one of the most famous in France. The current title-holder is Charles I de Montmorency, who was made marshal of France in 1344 at the age of 19 and grand chamberlain at 22. He survived Crecy and Poitiers to become one King Charles V’s chief counsellors. Note that the sixteen eagles on his arms are supposed to be blue, but I cheated somewhat and used black India ink in my smallest mechanical pen. Any other color tends to clog it up, and I figured that a small deviation from blue to black shouldn’t endanger my immortal soul. Too much.

If you don’t know where the town and Diocese of Paris is, I can’t help you! Surprisingly, Paris was not yet an archdiocese yet in 1358, being attached to the archdioces of Sens.

The Castellany of Montaigu is eighty or ninety miles west southwest of Paris. The current lord was Jean de Bourgogne, lord of Montaigu and Joinville.

Countship of Brie Française - The area of Brie is to the east of Paris, bounded by the Seine and the Marne. The western region is known as Brie Champenoise.
