The region of Champagne has long been an important region in the northeast of France. Centuries before Dom Perignon turned spritziness in wine from a defect into a feature, the region was known for its dairy, sheep, and vineyards. Large commercial fairs were held on its plains since medieval times. It became a royal province in 1314 when the then count of Champagne became king as Louis X.
The Town of Luxeuil is in eastern France, fifty miles west of Mulhouse, and is the site of an ancient abbey.
The Town of Ferette is located in Alsace, fifteen miles south of Mulhouse.
The Duchy of Bar stretched from the Marne to Luxembourg. The titleholder was Robert I of Bar (born 1342, died 1411).
