Macross Plus (1994)
On
Planet Eden, thirty years after the historic events in the original Macross
saga, the Ministry of Defense is developing new fighter pilots for the U.N.
Spacey fleet. Guld Bowman and Isamu Dyson are fiercely competitive pilots
vying for the development contract for their experimental fighters. When a
concert tour brings the arrival of Myung, a mutual ex-girlfriend, old wounds are
reopened and the rivalry is intensified. Myung is the producer for Sharon
Apple, a computer generated pop star with an artificial intelligence
program. Things go awry when an illegal "emotion chip" is
installed in Sharon Apple and the virtual singer attains Myung's memories and
feelings. The powerful computer program takes over Macross city and will
stop at nothing to draw the affections of Isamu and Guld.
Music, mecha, love triangle. What more can you ask for in a Macross story? The movie is a strong and original character drama with a sensational soundtrack and breathtaking animation. Screenshots can't do this film justice- there's nothing like watching a fighter dodge a flurry of missiles with the smoke trails weaving around the screen. This series (later adapted into a movie) is a must-see. Now available on DVD for the ultimate home viewing experience!
