Advanced Fibre Communications Internship

The AFC internship was a valuable experience for me. I learned a great deal about web development as well as about preparing graphic elements for web pages. Below are my objectives and what I learned from my experience.

1.

I wanted to have a clear knowledge of the functionality of the Internet and Intranet site at AFC. The site is immense and it took a while to get a clear idea of where everything was. Knowing how to navigate through these labyrinths is invaluable in preparation for working with any company with large sites.

2.
I learned Microsoft PowerPoint on the fly by "improving" and "enhancing" files that had been created by the staff. I thought I was successful at manipulating the information to make it more comprehensive for the prospective client.
3.
I prepared PhotoShop files by modifying images and backgrounds to produce master files that could be accessed by different departments for multiple uses in print, web and in other mediums.
4.
I created a site for a marketing project that promoted development of global markets and maintenance of customer satisfaction. This site can be used on the Intranet and on CDs by global distributors.

The internship prepared me for seeking employment at a technical firm in the Sonoma County area. The prospects for jobs in this field are limited but the industry is still growing. I feel more confident in having skills that will be useful for employment with similar organizations.
