Hey everybody, I spent close to 17 years in the philippines 2 years 4th and 5th grade at Brent. I think 1980-81. If the class of 1980 gets together let me know what happens. I remember Tom gammage running around the soccer field a hundred some times one field day. And Karen LeCroy's younger brother was my first american friend. Rebecca Marks was in my class. Anybody remember Clay Slate? Well the adobo is on the stove I better get. Malygayang Pasko and Haffy New Years.

Santa Banana! Mi madre politica! Senora taught 5 Pearsons at Brent - from my brother Butch '56, through Casey '65, Bill '66, Jackie '69 and myself '73.(Mike Pearson is not related to our Pearsons though his family through his mom Kim went there as long as mine did!)Senora was truly a part of my Brent experience from the time I started kindergarten there, as my big brothers had all taken Spanish from her. Quite a lady - quite a legend. God bless her family. Anne

Woody Longenecker & I have been talking about trying to organize a reunion not just for our class ('86) but for all of our friends that went to Brent w/ us from 1983-1986. We were thinking about the year 2001. There are still quite a few more people we need to locate. Please E-mail me if you are interested in the reunion.

The Class of '80 will be holding a reunion somewhere in the U.S. next year (our 20th!), and we are looking for all the members of that class! So far, we've located the following: Bailey Marks, Mike Case, Karen LeCroy Cukrowski, Ditaz Diaz Harris, Vivian Frianeza, Norma Pizarro Steussy, Tom Gammage and Mani Esguerra. We're still looking for the following: Ed (Bimbo) Locsin, Nha Nguyen, Alex Padaco, Sara Corcoran, Perry Coseteng and Renee Webb. If anyone has any contact information leading to the "missing" classmates, please email me at GlobNet@BellSouth.net Thanks for your help!

It was absolutely great to find Gerry's page and THEN the rest of the story! I look forward to hearing from any of the early 70's gang. Gerry was in error in one paragraph on the campus about only two entrance/exits to Brent; but that's another story. Regards to all who read this, Webbo

Aloha! The final dates have been posted for the reunion of the class of '75.It looks like we are going to get a great turnout! Alumni from other years are also attending & of the 36 we were, and 34 I hope we still are, I have located 19 (7 '75-ers are a YES, w/ 7 MORE undecided! That's almost 1/2 the class!!!) You must book NOW if you want an oceanfront room, beach house, etc. Most places are booking August now, otherwise you can still get a nice place up through Spring when the discounters release their rates. Airfare will need to be booked by April or so to get the best rates. We're waiting to see if there are enough coming from one area (like LA) to get "group" rates. There are several alumni living in Hawaii who are going to drop in also! Hope to see you there! Questions? Cost inquiries? (It's less than you think!) Help with lodging? Group rates? Let me know! Aloha!

Greetings from Baguio, which is now into deep "rainy season"...it has been raining for 17 straight days !! I have moved on from Alumni-related matters to become the President of the Brent PTA for 1999-2001. One of my concerns is that many of Brent's "traditions" seem to be disappearing very quickly. I'd like to hear from you guys what you would consider the traditions of "your time" at Brent School. Please include your years at Brent if you do find time to email me. If you can still remember (!) - why were these things important then ? While some things may no longer be relevant, I do feel that tradition has a place at Brent School, even as we approach the millenium. Hope to hear from a bunch of you soon.

Okay kids... Here we go...from what I have gathered, we are on for the 2nd week of August, 2000! The date for arrival will be Aug.7th and departures on the weekend of the 12th & 13th, depending on when you need to be home...I hope this works for everyone. The previous dates were cutting it too close for school starting for those with kids coming. It looks to be a great turnout already and more and more people from other classes are showing an interest! Questions? Comments? Let us know! We are cur- rently rounding up a list of places to stay for anyone who needs it. More later, M

Hello Brentoids, as Melissa Sansing ('75)insists on calling us. Just received an email from Santiago Bose, one of the Philippines' foremost contemporary artists; one I'm proud to call a friend. The Baguio Arts Guild has been resuscitated, and for those of you who thrived beyond the guarded walls of Brent, you may want to visit the site for a nostalgic breath of the same artistic air that seemed to lend us all some kind of empowerment. Go to http://inthebag.iscool.net or htttp://members.tripod.com/¬inthebag. Gerry, any chance we can make this a link? Kudos to you for this brilliant site which has given us a lot more than the past back. We all owe you lots, Gerry. Well done, and do please keep it up! Cheers, Joy(ce) Garcia Kropp ('75 Busrider)

I need more input on the date of arrival for the reunion next year... I am doing my best to accomodate everyone and have received a request to back the dates up a few days due to a school change for one of the families who are bringing children and extended family members. Until the fares for next summer are released by the discounters I will leave it up in the air but stuck in the second week of August...period. I know everyone is already getting booking info. on hotels (I will have a list of good prospects by next month and print them here...) I appreciate everyone's help in locating the missing class of '75ers. Please send any other date requirements and alumni whereabouts info. to me ASAP as it won't be too long until time to book if you want a decent fare pkg. for both air and lodging ... Aloha and Mahalo for your patience! M

I have a project for those of you going on the Unofficial Field Trip 2000. Please take some time over the next year and put together a small scrap book of your favorite "then and now" photos, newspaper articles, pictures of your house, dog, kids that you didn't bring with you, anything to catch us all up on your last 25 years. Everyone always says "oh, I wish I had a picture to show you... well...Also, if you have any good Brent daze photos that you know someone in them would enjoy a copy of...make one for them. Even on a color copier they will be appreciated. Not all of us were camera buffs. And leave a page blank to add them to your scrapbook if you get any.. I have a couple I could probably get $$$ for...think I'm kidding? Show up next summer and see, Audrey... Have mail out to Leeanne C. but no reply yet...and anyone in contact with the Gravens'(Gill &James) ask them to email me if possible. I will put a reminder up later for this, as I think it would make it more fun. And please bring your yearbook! More later, Melissa

Class of '75 and all others who are comeing out of nowhere to join us next year for the reunion in Hawaii... we need to change the date by a week or so, so we have settled on August 10-14th, 2000. This will be final and no further changes will be made, short of a airline/hotel strike...This should accomodate every need, with a weekend in the middle, so less work days will be lost, and before all schools start as far as we could tell by the input we have received so far. Heard from Titong yesterday and Mark Walther '77 also. We are becoming many, thanks to gerry! More as we get it. Gonna have a good time!!! Plan on staying in the Poipu Beach area. Better for swimming, surfing, boat trips, Waimea Canyon, Turtle watching and offers a wide variety of accomodations. Will have more on hotels, etc. when discounts, etc. are organized... Who, would of ever thought this site existed. I couldn't of asked for any better, when I tried tonight to see if I could know, see or speak anything related with those few but incredible Brent days. I was a student there for a small fracture of time and I kept in touch for several years with two of my firends, Marnie Paraiso and Krsitina Purganan, but oh have I wondered about Amy Dadha, the nicest and most welcoming person I encountered in Brent from day one, when I was scared and speechless in my new boarding room, all by myself. I can still remember, Amy walking into my room, and quickly I get that hilarious laugh of hers, and how she took me under her wing and filled me in on everyone and everything about Brent. If anyone remebers me, believe me I would love to hear from you. Whatever happened to Patrick Geenen and Krsitina, Marnie and Gina ! Oh boy, you wouldn't believe how many memories have flashed back at me while checking out this marvelous site. Thankyou Gerry, youv'e provided a remarkable moment in time, for me.MERI LUBINA - I will be sending my e- mail adress as soon as I confirm it myself.

We spent the day with Tracy Dixon in Honolulu and the next 2 days with Julie (Tin) Rukstad and her family. Nice to see both alumni again. then 8 days exploring Kauai, in which we took a little time to hunt up a wide variety of accomodations, suitable to every pocketbook and level of service desired. From cook your own meal cottages to the outrageous Hyatt Regency. We are also growing in number! Heard from Mark Walther'77 and still waiting on contacts in the PI...where are you? I recently learned that Ralph Weidman who graduated from Brent had lived in Greensboro until his death on June 3, 1997. I do not know what year he graduated from Brent but he graduated from Lehigh University in 1965 so probably four years or so earlier. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis and daughters, Brenda, Barbara, and Beverly of Greensboro. I just happened to see an old newspaper and it noted that he graduated from Brent. Believe me, THAT caught my eye. Anyway, I thought others who knew him might want to know. On a more cheerful note, my husband, Fred, and I celebrated 33 years together in April. Our three sons have truly blessed our lives as have our daughter in law and 2 1/2 year old grand-daughter, Sarah. Would ove to hear from friends who attended from Sept. '63 to May '65 when I graduated.

I'm putting together a re-entry orientation for college students who are/have been away from their home countries for several years. I'd really appreciate any suggestions about what helped/hindered your re-entry process. Specific ideas of readings, exercises, discussion topics, wisdom to share, etc. would be much appreciated. I remember the shock and would like to smooth things a bit for others. I've done some reading, some remembering, some asking for advice, and I do have some ideas, but am looking for more. Thanks!

BISHOP BRENT'S DAY,March 19, 1999. Brent School is 90 years old this year! The day started with a chapel service in St. Nicholas Chapel, there was the formal opening of the Creative Arts Centre (formerly the Student Activities Center....and before that it was the old Administration Bldg), a Brent video and slide show in the afternoon, followed by a Pot Luck Family picnic on Neutral. The evening saw a Brent Family Concert in the Alfred Griffiths Theatre (formerly the pelota court area - and for really ancient 1960's Alumni it used to be the bottom tennis court). The Alumni said Bishop Brent's Prayer For The School - in attendance: Nena Damagen ('64), Mike Pearson ('76),Odette Nassr ('79), Bernie Curran ('85), Amado Garcia ('89) and Kirk Daoey ('90).

Hi to anyone from the Class of 81. Aren't we supposed to be having a reunion soon? We all said 10 years from our Brent graduation. To everyone in Brent Baguio, miss that school so much. I went to study in Ateneo Manila and on to New York. But, there's something about Brent and Baguio that always keeps me coming back. Maybe I'll visit sometime soon. Till then!

Hello Brentonians, I am looking for Paulina Pizarro you was at Brent School Baguio for at least the 1981 - 82 school year. She went to Faith Academy for her Senior year and graduated with us in May 1983. Any of you from 1982 will probably remember her. She used to cut hair. I believe she used to live in Peru before living in the Philippines. We are putting together a book for our class and are also trying to plan for future reunions. Any help you can give us would be appreciated. Thanks John Schwenk

Thanks, Marcia Mau, for getting us connected to the Brentonians. I attended 61-63 (Class of 64), returned with my wife Barb to teach 71-74 and even served on the Board of Trustees while at the U.S. Embassy in Manila 83-87. We are looking forward to participating in U.S. reunions (we had a great 75th on campus in 84). Sorry I missed out on the Super Sixties -- next time! A neighbor who was born in Cebu has just told me of a book set in Baguio "Share of Honor", published in 1989. It is out-of-print altho he plans to lend it to me. The book is during WWII and the hero is associated w/ a school that reminded my friend of Brent. The author is Ralph Graves who graduated in 1941 and was later Editor of Life Magazine and Editorial Director of Time Magazine. Mr. Graves wrote an article about his return to Brent in 1984 in the Time issue of 5/21/84. He has written several other books.

The 60's reunion at Asilomar was fantastic. It really was amazing to see 40 alums or teachers (plus 7 spouses) for the first time in 35 years. People drifted in and out on Friday, Sat, and Sun. It was great to see several people I listed as missing last year: Maggie and Rick Service, Bob Fagan, Nancy Schultz. Class of '64 and '65 had the most attendees. Best quote: Tom Ihrig's "I have a movement." Maggie made a grand entrance Sat night at dinner. Pam Sauerbier stopped by Sunday morning en route to dinner w/ Leilani Hino in Millbrae. Bill Deaver was there Friday night before returning to Anchorage to prepare for his move to Cork, Ireland. I hope at least some of the hundreds of photos turn out well enough to be scanned into this website. Thanks to Steve Griffiths, Lani Mortensen, and Kathy Fertig for getting us together: John and Julie Grant are looking into the next Super Sixties gathering in a couple of years.

Hi to all Brentonians out there. I just wanted to extend my personal appreciation (again) to Gerry and to all who have made this alumnai page great. Greetings from Baguio ! Various Alumni generations have been writing to ask when the next issue of CONTACT, the Alumni newsletter would be coming out (last issue was November of 1997). I'm afraid at this stage we don't have any money to put get another one out; although we can do things via the Net there are still quite a number of Alumni without email....and they are the ones sending in the the money ! Perhaps when you all start considering donations for Christmas to various institutions you could give some thought to our predicament in far-away Baguio. A small amount goes a long way for your Brent Alumni Office. 100% of any amount you contribute goes towards Alumni matters; Gerry and I are doing the rest of the work for free.

I work with International Students at a local two-year university campus. We have an excellent orientation program, but it's aimed at students who come for a year or two and then go home. I'm trying to put together two new orientation sessions for "expat" students - one for US students returning to the States after having spent a significant part of their lives overseas, another for foreign students coming here and beginning the process of living abroad for four or more years. The one for US students would probably be at the beginning of the year, the foreign students would likely go into my regular int'l student orientation in the fall, but need something after the first year to help them process before they either go home for the summer or move on to a four-year campus. I'm wondering what suggestions you folks might have about good resources, things you did that worked well/didn't work well... I'll appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks.

Then the next week John & Julie Grant stopped in Augusta for a couple of hours. As promised but much too late, I was able to stop in for an all too brief visit with Casey Pearson, his wife Barb, daughter Stacey, and his mother Ruth. Seeing all of the was wonderful and after a few comments about the weather and stuff we got right into a wonderful visit. From what I was able to gather, the Pearson family is doing well. If you'll let me know where to send them, I have a few pictures of my visit. I have since received a wonderful letter from Anne Pearson. A real bonus to my trip was a tour given by Casey of the EZ Go Golf Cart plant where Casey is employed. Being a golfer it was fun for me. That tour and a glimpse (it's all you can get) of Augusta kept the golfer in me satisfied. I've also heard from John Grant who was amazed that I was able to pick up on how to access and use this high tech communication media. I must be one of only a few as I don't see much from the class of '67 or from gang that was around from 1958 to 1967. Hope to hear from anyone who may remember me. TTFN

Thanks for this page. It's strange but wonderful to be able to connect to Brent again. My compliments and appreciation for putting it together and maintaining it. I'd love to hear from anyone who was there while I was ('65-'66), especially from the class of '68. I have some pictures and a program from the Masquers production of "Carousel" that I'd be happy to scan in and send if there's interest (as soon as my computer savvy sons get home from their whitewater trip and teach me how...)

Brent is currently trying to raise funds for Peter Atiwag, the school's gardener for 15 years. He has to get a heart operation that costs 410,000 pesos, which he cannot afford. He has three children, the youngest only 3 years old. So, I am writing the alumni of Brent Baguio to inform and ask if they can help Manong Peter out. Call Brent Baguio for more information. Thanks for your time.

Aloha from Dabney ('69)! Sorry I have not had a chance to check-in for awhile! Gerry, I really enjoy seeing all of the old and new photos on the unofficial Brent School Alumni Page. I have found a few pictures from 1965. They include scenes from Masquers productions "Joan of Arc" and South Pacific. I am sure Kathy Fertig Phelps (Hi, Kathy!) and Julie Hodges Grant (Hello, Julie) would enjoy them. I will try to make copies and send them as soon as I can. Unfortunately I cannot scan them and send them via e-mail. What is your mailing address? Please advise. Aloha, Dabney

Hello Fellow Brentonians! I spent '64-'65 at Brent School and graduated in '65! Fellow Brentonian Marcia Mau told me about your wonderful web page Gerry! Thank you very much. It sure looks good. I enjoyed reading all of the comments from fellow Brentonians. I am especially interested in hearing from Brentonians from the mid-sixties ('65-'69). I now live in Anchorage, Alaska. Are there any other Brentonians in Alaska? If so, please let me know. I ran into Miss Somebang (sp.?) at the airport in Nome, Alaska years ago. She was a Indian Health Service nurse stationed in Nome (I think). I enjoy receiving e-mails from fellow Brentonian Marcia Mau. My brother John Sitton also graduated from Brent in 1968. John, his wife Barbara, daughter Cathleen and son Kenneth now live in Cairo, Egypt. Pau for now! Mahalo for this site, Gerry! Aloha, Dabney

What ever happened to Mrs. Viduya or Mrs. Yabut? I helped with the plays during the time I was there. Let me hear from some of you. This page is great...a real nostalgia trip.

It is terrific to read all the comments from Brent Alumni. My recent trip to the USA gave me a chance to meet some of you and also to visit St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire and the Groton School, where our first Headmaster Remsden Ogilby taught. A new assembly hall/theatre named after Fr. Griffiths and a new library are being opened on March 20 by the US Ambassador. We've just opened some new trails on the campus for cross-country running and a ropes course is about to be started. A lot of what we're doing happened in previous eras when I read the old Ganzas. We're planning a mini-farm for next year, complete with pond, some animals, vegetables, etc, etc. Bee hives are planned. Anyone who knows about the old farm at the school could be really helpful to us. I spoke to Mike Pearson on my return and we're planning an archive room for all the old memorabilia. I hope to see more of you at the reunion in October in the U.S.A.

Greatings from the land of the BIG RED - 1997 National Champions and congratualations to Michigan for their claim this year too. Hey, this is the greatest thing I've seen in over 30 years! Class of '67 where are you? To name a few, Bill (UGLY) Deaver, Greg Athens, Kenny Pate, Priscilla Grey, Marlene Azcona, Bill Jameson and the rest of the 36 that graduated. In May of 1997 my wife Linda and I celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary with a trip to Hawaii. A highlight while there was seeing Conchita, our housegirl for 8 of the 9 years I was in the Philippines. In September my folks (Lloyd and Fonda) hosted a VOA reunion in Dubuque, Iowa. Mrs. Marge Jones (Brent Librarian) was there with her daughter Pat. I still remember Mrs. Jones asking me to put me head on my crossed arms on the library table whenever I got caugh talking! I plan to see Casey Pearson the week of February 2nd during a trip to Georgia. I'll provide an update when I get back. I travel at least once a month to Concord, California (30 miles north of San Francisco). Is there anyone from Brent out that way that I know or knows me? I could go on forever, but will stop and anxiously wait for contact from individuals that are foundly an important part of my past.

Gerry, this web page is absolutely superb. Julie and I were just going through these comments and would like to find Bob Chapman and Mike Ashman. Both were in the Class of 66. So if anyone knows, please e-mail us. Additionally, last fall, Sharmini and Nermali Penomperuma visted us here in TX. Alan (Surf) Langford came down from Sherman, TX and we had a nice little reunion. We all went to a party hosted by some of our Filipino friends here in Dallas. If there are other folks in the 64-71 classes in the Dallas Metroplex, please contact us via e-mail of tel. Hot off the press.......BAGUIO CALENDAR 1998, with pictures of "old Baguio" pre-WWII, produced by your Alumni Office as a fund-raising project. The cost - US10/copy by snail mail, US15/copy via DHL Philippines. You can email me for more information - I will need the check made out to BRENT SCHOOL ALUMNI FUND and can only send your copy(s) when I have received the check ! Makes for a great Christmas present to friends ( hint, hint, order more than one ? ). The size is 8"x11", half of which is a sepia reproduction of the picture. I only have 1500 copies and plan to sell them to bookstores in Baguio and Manila as well....so there is the potential to run out ( I hope ). For Philippine Alumni, these calendars will be available in Manila soon - and for Baguio - now ! The Brent Bookstore will have them on sale, plus Baguio Country Club, Camp John Hay, CID, Jet Bookstore and a number of other places. Order soon.....

Tim Olive's observation about adjusting to stateside struck a chord with me. I had been overseas in South America for seven years, then back to the US for one before boarding eighth through junior years at Brent. Finishing up my senior year in the US was very much a shock. At that time, I found that I couldn’t relate to the ordinary American experience. What people think about, what was their everyday concern. It was very hard to find a basis for conversation, of shared experience. I think there are separate points of view on ‘reality’ between these two civilizations ('east' and 'west'). In many ways I feel I'm a foreigner in my homeland (by no means the only one), but I wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the world considering the freedoms.

Does anyone know where Nancy Schulz is? Any leads would help. She did have a bunch of sisters. Her farther worked for DelMonte on Mindanou. A bunch of us from the early Sixties have been looking for her.

Brent alumni need an area where we can leave public messages for other alumni to read and respond to. So this one has been set up for us. I was wondering if any other foreign students had a particularly hard time adjusting to life in their "homeland" like I did. You know, American on the outside, but part Filipino on the inside. If so, how would you describe your experience, and what help (if any) did you get? Do you consider yourself adjusted to American society, and do you have any hard feelings about your experiences of transition after high school? Anybody interested?
