These are the milestones and maintenance log for my TR6.

05/28/1999 Ordered the "Complete Official Triumph TR6 and TR250, 1967-1976" (Robert Bentley) from Amazon.com. Requested TR6 catalogs from Victoria British and Moss Motors.
06/08/1999 Ordered car cover from Victoria British to protect car on its long trip home.
06/14/1999 I become a proud owner of a 1973 Triumph TR6 in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
06/15/1999 Car is serviced by Bristol Motors, Victoria, BC, Canada.
06/16/1999 Car is imported into the U.S.; it is exempt from DOT and EPA inspections because it is 25 years or older.
06/17/1999 Car enters California. My son, Ryan insists he be at the controls when the car crosses the Oregon-California border.

Here's another picture of Ryan and the car with Mt. Shasta in the background.

06/18/1999 Car is safely home and registered in California. The only problem we encountered on our trip home was the tail pipe strap breaking.
06/19/1999 Replaced both front tires; rear tires are almost new.
06/25/1999 I join The Vintage Triumph Register.
07/05/1999 Speedometer cable is broken; ordered new cable, grommet, cable clip, spin on oil filter adapter, owner's handbook, rollbar cover, and rubber floor mats from Victoria British. Also bought a radio antenna at a local store to cover the exposed antenna hole although I have no plans of installing a radio in the car. Plain black license plate frames are installed as well.
07/25/1999 Clutch feels different. Fluid level is low. Topped-off clutch reservoir and the clutch feels normal again. Engine hesitates during initial acceleration. One of the carburetor dampers is low on oil. Topping-off solves the problem.
07/26/1999 Ordered rear "Triumph" emblem (which is missing from my car), and Lift-A-Dot socket and plates for tonneau cover I'm having made locally.
07/27/1999 Ordered "Triumph Sports Cars (Enthusiast Color Series)" (G. William Krause), "Essential Triumph TR: TR2-TR8: The Cars and their Story 1953-81" (David Hodges), and "Triumph TR6" (William Kimberley) from Amazon.com.
08/14/1999 Installed TriumphTune Stainless Steel Sports Exhaust System ordered from Moss Motors to replace jury-rigged exhaust (dual pipes into a single pipe) installed by a PO. My car now runs better (more power) and sounds better (and louder but not as loud as I had feared). I'm pleased with this exhaust system except for how low it hangs.
08/23/1999 I had a local upholstery shop make me a custom tonneau cover. I could not use the "standard" cover because of the roll bar. Le Upholstery Shoppe did a great job and I'm quite pleased with the results. Now I can leave my car parked outside under the sun all day long with the top down and tonneau cover on without worrying about hot seats!
09/04/1999 Almost 3000 miles since I bought the car and its last oil change. I changed the oil and installed the spin on oil filter adapter. What a nightmare! You have to remove the clutch slave cylinder to remove the oil filter cannister and filter! I noticed that there was no O-Ring when I removed the oil filter cannister - no problem! One came with the adapter, but installing it caused oil to gush out. I re-installed without the outer O-Ring and used Loctite's Form-A Gasket Sealant instead. It worked great - no leaks! The spin on oil filter is installed with the filter between the 7-8 o'clock positions to clear the slave clutch cylinder. This should make the next oil change much easier.
09/09/1999 Replaced air filters with K&N filters ordered from Moss Motors.
09/12/1999 Attended the 21st Annual British Car Meet in Palo Alto, California. I have 115 photographs from this meet.
09/13/1999 Replaced leaky clutch slave cylinder and rubber hose with new slave cylinder and stainless steel braided hose ordered from Moss Motors. The clutch feels much better.
09/25/1999 Replaced leaky clutch master cylinder and clutch pipe with new master cylinder ordered from Moss Motors and pipe ordered from The Roadster Factory. The complete clutch hydraulics system is now new. Also installed the Pertronix Ignitor (electronic ignition). Installation was easy and I've noticed that the engine is running smoother than before.
09/28/1999 Replaced alternator with a rebuilt unit (Lucas 18ACR) from The Roadster Factory. Replaced the wood dash with a solid walnut dash bought from Steve Sewell, a local TR4A owner. The dash was a brand new unit ordered from The Roadster Factory by a PO of his dad's TR6. His dad did not like how dark it looked.
10/02/1999 Drove to San Ramon (California) for Triumphest '99. Ordered a set of Minilite replica wheels and a wood Moto-Lita steering wheel from Rimmer Bros. who were at the show. What a great deal and free shipping! Also bought miscellaneous parts from TRF (it was a pleasure to meet and speak with Charles Runyan), and a shock conversion kit from Herman van den Akker - the best kit I've seen. Met a lot of really nice Triumph owners, and I wished I had attended all 4 days.

First breakdown! My battery died on the way home. It was just a disconnected wire to the alternator. After reconnecting and a jumpstart from the local AAA tow truck, I was on my way home. Whew!

10/05/1999 Called Herman to confirm my order for shock conversion kit (fellow lister Martin Gonzales and I got the last 2 he had on hand) and to confirm my position for a Toyota transmission replacement kit he is developing. By the way, Herman's design was ripped off him (and I'm sure you know who did it). His kit will be available by the end of the year for about $900 complete or without the transmission. He is already testing it in his daughter's car. BTW, Herman is one of the recipients of the Heritage Award this year.
10/07/1999 Ordered more parts from TRF to take advantage of the Triumphest '99 special (discounts and free shipping). Bought a pair of KYB shocks (KG4503) for the shock conversion kit I ordered from Herman.
10/08/1999 Received the shock conversion kit from Herman. I'm really impressed with the quality of the workmanship and material of this kit. I will post pictures of this kit and its installation soon on this site. Choke cable broke; ordered replacement and other parts from Moss. Removed choke cable.
10/09/1999 Received parts from Moss. Installed new choke cable and Herman's shock conversion kit with KYB gas shocks, blue Moss competition springs, aluminum packing, and rubber spring collars. Wow! What a difference in ride. Of course, the right lever shock I removed was shot. Here are pictures of Herman's shock conversion kit and the installation.
10/15/1999 Received Mini-Lite wheels and Moto-Lita wood steering wheel from Rimmer Bros.
10/17/1999 Installed Moto-Lita wood steering wheel.
10/18/1999 Installed Mini-Lite wheels with a new set of Pirelli P400 P205/70R15 tires.
10/19/1999 Installed emergency hood opening kit.
10/23/1999 I changed my mind about installing a stereo in the car. I installed a pair of Pioneer speakers (in enclosures) behind the seats on the floor. The enclosures are bolted to the car.
10/26/1999 Tim Stone Audio installed a Nakamichi CD deck in my car with a pair of ADS speakers. They did a great job which included manufacturing the "kidneys" where the speakers are mounted. My car is the second TR6 installation they've done and Steve Sewell (Sales & Installation) owns a TR4A. They're Triumph-friendly!
11/10/1999 Installed a wind screen made of quarter inch Plexiglass inside the rollbar to reduce wind turbulence from the rear. This has significantly reduced wind turbulence/noise and improved climate control in the cockpit, specially when the side windows are rolled up. Now I can hear the stereo I just had installed!
11/12/1999 Replaced spark plugs with Champion N9YC Copper Plus.
02/19/2000 Installed DieHard Security Battery and Herman van den Akker's engraved battery holder.
03/17/2000 Flushed cooling system.
03/18/2000 Beautiful spring weather! Rotated tires, changed oil, washed, cleaned, polished, and waxed the car.
03/30/2000 First traffic ticket in TR6! Got home today after being out of town for almost a week. It's sunny and beautiful - I was itching to take the TR6 out for a ride. Got on one of favorite backroads where I got tagged going 74 MPH on radar by a CHP coming the other way.
12/28/2001 It's been a while since I updated these pages. The annual British Car Meet in Palo Alto, California was not held this year - the park where it is usually held was under renovation. However, it was held the year before (2000) and here are photos of a unique silver TR6 that looks more like a plane without wings, as well as other cars.
