Rojas, Arnold R.

"Chief Rojas" has been among vaqueros since he was nine. He spent his life in the saddle and around horses and cattle. He knows the horse without foolish sentiment or illusion, yet with a deep affection and understanding.

Mr. Rojas is a Californian by birth. His family came from Sonora, Mexico, in the 1820's. He learned his profession on the ranchos of Kern County, California.

Although he had no formal education he became an avid reader and has mastered the art of story telling. He has a superior knowledge from sources in both English and Spanish of the historical background of the vaquero and his horse. This knowledge has been worked into his books.
