Course Overview
A hands-on introduction to creating graphics for the World Wide Web. Subjects covered include: scanning and digitizing; color tables; image resolution; graphics compression formats; graphics as text; original backgrounds; designing navigation; principles of color and line for screen design. This class will explore graphics options for both the Macintosh and PC using Photoshop. Students need to be familiar with fundamentals of Photoshop and HTML to succeed in the course.

Class Website
We will be using the course materials developed by Linda Hemenway and expanded upon by me. You will using this site (http://www.sonic.net/~haveart/onlineweb_adv) for lesson material, links to additional materials and resources, to keep track of the homework assignments, to check out fellow student's work and to look up your grades. We will have a message list for posting comments and hopefully create a dialogue.

Required Text
There are two required texts, one a book and the other a CD that will be used for both the A and B classes. The book is Lynda Weinman's Photoshop 6 ImageReady 3 Hands-On Training available in the student bookstore. The CD is Linda Hemenway's Instructor Notes available in the Santa Rosa and Petaluma campus bookstores ($25.00). You need to ask for the CD, it won't be displayed on the shelf. The CD is also available at L&L Books ($20.00) or online ($20.00 plus shipping).

Homework
An account will be created on the CIS department's server, Gracie for every student. Everyone will be required to post their homework there. You will be creating 2 websites with 2 pages each that will be posted online. Each week you will submit a form with the URL of your homework page that will have links to your assignments. In addition, there will be 3 quizzes and 5 smaller assignments that will require you to evaluate websites and submit the information by online form.
