The proposed Federated Indians of Graton
Rancheria casino on the outskirts of Rohnert Park will
have a huge negative effect on groundwater. An installation
this big, with hotel rooms, pools, spas, restaurants, wet
bars, lawns, gardens and other water consuming operations
all drawing well water, will deplete a water table that
Rohnert Park has already forced into serious overdraft.
The plan includes multiple thousand-foot wells.
Rohnert Park does not appear to be reducing
reliance on groundwater. The city agreed to do this in
a legal settlement with the Penngrove community when it
lost in court. But now Rohnert Park appears prepared to
allow a 360 acre casino to drill way down into an already
depleted aquifer and reduce the water table even farther.
