The Sonoma County Water Agency (SCWA) has repeatedly petitioned the State for permission to reduce the amount of water in the Russian River. The reason for this, claim SCWA officials, is protect salmon. Got that? Fish need less water.

River advocates point out that low flows in the Russian would mean higher temperatures and a climate inimical to fish.
