Taking the plunge into another Hofstetter Literacy book, we finally settled on the leaping dolphin as an appropriate mascot for Internet surfers. Originally, the editor wanted a tarantula pouncing out of a computer screen (spider, Web -- get it?), but the very idea gave me the creeps. Flipper, on the other hand, is intelligent, playful, and a TV and film star. It was no accident that we chose him; in fact, you might say we did it
on porpoise.
