5640 Melita Road Gallery

Our pre-1900 Historic Structure

I have both a studio space (downstairs) and a show room (road level) in part of a 4800 square foot galvanized metal, concrete and wood warehouse that was once a turn of the twentieth century winery.

The studio fronts Melita Road in eastern Santa Rosa with easy access from both Highway 12 (via Melita or Queen Anne) and Montgomery Drive.

My studio is in about a quarter of the space of the lower area. Also sharing the lower area is a hobby winery, our wood working tools, my welder and storage. The lower area is enclosed by thick concrete walls that were erected in the late 1800Ős; the ceiling shows the exposed beams that support the second floor; there is no glass in the window openings, only wire mesh. It is a rustic, drafty space with a sense of dungeon, timelessness and history.

The upper (showroom) section along Melita Road is used half for storage and half for exhibition. It is accessed through a single door and a short stairway. I have hosted shows with artists of other mediums and with members of the Kiln Formed Glass Alliance (a Santa Rosa based glass guild) in this space. The area is open and square with wood floors and corrugated metal walls and roof. There is parking for four to five cars immediately in front of the building, and parking for up to 7 cars on our driveway and gravel parking area below the building. Other visitors would be able to park across the street on Queen Anne Dr.
