The SS Charlottetown was a rail / auto / passenger ferry, operated by the Canadian National Railways, which served as Prince Edwards Island's link to the outside world. It was built in 1932. In 1942 it was heading for a refurbishment at St Johns. Of course, those were times of war, and to avoid the ever-present threat of predatory submarines, it traveled close in to shore. Alas, it encountered an uncharted reef and soon sank, bringing an early end to its brief career. As it was running empty, there were apparently no casualities except for itself.
Whether such cups as this were actually used on-board in the ship's "first class restaurant", or merely souvenirs, is unknown, but either way they are a scarce reminder of the short life of the SS Charlottetown.
