An antique gallery near Atlanta, that sometimes sells railroad china, tells you that they will bill the shipping to your credit card separately from your purchase after they pack your order, "so that they can charge the "correct" amount". In truth, they more than double any reasonable charge (on the order of $20 per plate) while you are not looking. If you should encounter a similar game, insist on a total amount before giving them your card number! It is to help our customers avoid this same "misunderstanding" that we have a fixed shipping charge ($10) on all orders (unless stated otherwise up-front - and, of course, free shipping on orders over $500).
