Popular Cult is our self-financed (read as no-budget) documentary looking into the experiences and insights of those who love, collect and create pop music, icons and art. People may argue over the validity of pop culture as a 'true art form', some dismiss it as a disposable medium, while others embrace it dearly.
Paul Bertolino, Jonathan, with Robert Hecker and some friends. |
It's where we find our villans, heros, crushes, inspiration. It's what we take dates to, talk to friends about. Popular culture provides us with common grounds to communicate our personal beliefs and ideals You may love it or hate it, relish in it, avoid it at all cost, or just stare vacantly into it - pop culture is a mirror of our lives, and an artifact of our society for the future. Youth culture finds it's fashion, morality, desires from the mediums of pop culture, and there are rare and wonderful times when the people dictate the mediums [medias?] . The topic of pop culture is too vast to cover in a single film, so we have narrowed our focused on the people who have been important to us, and who share the passion of the divine absurdity of it all.
