BSV Kickers Emden

This club is the real flagship of Ostfriesland, founded in 1946, with about 1,000 members. The roots go back to the Emder Turnverein in 1861, although soccer was not played until 1928.

The club was mostly in obscurity until ithe 1990s, when they made the breakthrough into the upper divisions. However, the higher levels proved to be difficult. 1998-99 brought disaster to Ostfriesland. The Kickers sucked from the start, and when they finally started to play decent soccer, it was too late. Relegation! They then marched through the Oberliga the next season, only to fall short in promotion playoffs.

Kickers had a good start to the initial 3.Liga season, but then fell off down the stretch, finishing a respectable 6th, but ultimately disappointing, as the 2.Liga seemed within grasp for much of the season.

Renamed into Embdena-Stadion in 2005 after a local sponsor. "Due to some conditions of the German Football Association, the capacity has been reduced to only 7200. Safety reasons and the like..."

Supporters Averaged 1,216 in 2004 (Oberliga), about 2,700 in 2005 (Regionalliga). Five officially recognized fan clubs.
