ASV Landau

A small southwest club that was a pioneer in commercial exploitation...

Although ASV was officially founded in 1946, the roots of a major soccer club in Landau go back to 1933, when several local clubs got together to form BfL Landau. Nevertheless, it was only after WW-II when the club began to make appearances at higher amateur levels.

By the end of the 1960s, ASV was back in the Regionalliga, perhaps ushering in the "golden age". Or perhaps we should say "the whitewall" or "radial" age. In 1970 the tire company (?) "Gummi-Mayer" became the sole sponsor, and the official title was then Gummi-Mayer Landau, Fußballabteilung des ASV. This lasted till 1979, when the company got "tired"...

Stadium Südpfälzisches Stadion. Capacity: 10,800 (800 seats)
Built in 1926, once could hold up to 14,000. Some lower league matches are held at the dirt field, Jahnsportplatz.
