In a top-of-the-table clash, WSV was clearly overmatched by the so-called
amateurs of Gladbach. Wuppertal had no clue or drive, and basically ran
around like chickens with their heads cut off. Meanwhile, Borussia mounted
on the pressure, and deservedly grabbed a couple of first half goals to
essentially decide the game.
WSV's first decent chance came in the 52nd minute, as Sascha Walbröhl
forced a great save Borussia keeper Melkert. Just before the end, Florian
Wardi also had an opportunity, but wasted it.
Borussia's "amateurs" were clearly out to impress, since the Bundesliga
coach Hubert Mayer was in the stands. They were faster, more aggressive
and technically superior. Once again, the disgrace practice of the
top-level clubs has raised it's ugly head, as the "real" teams cannot
compete against the pros. Nevertheless, this should not be used aas an
excuse for WSV's listless performance. Just because the other team is
better, that's no reason to roll over and play dead.
