Overall, a disappointing result for WSV, which was picked by most league coaches in the pre-season poll to win the whole thing. They were undoubtedly expecting to capture all 3 points, and were lucky to escape with 1.
Here, a liberal translation of the kicker of 7/29/96:

That was bad luck for the newly reformed and "younger" Eintracht. As the thrilled fans in the stands already counted on a close win over the heavy favorites, the "snake bitten" Karsten Böttcher lengthened a desperate cross from Broos into his own net in the last minute. It was unstoppable for the mistake free keeper Stephan Straub.
In a high class match, the result of a draw was fair based on upon the run of play. Trier blew several promising counterattack chances by Stefan Wagner, gaugler and Albrecht. In the end, they blamed the uncertain Referee Engler, who in the 87. minute did not award a clear penalty from an obvious foul from Menzel on the outstanding Teichmann.
Wuppertal, despite the heat, did not disappoint, but was too indeterminate in attack. Müller missed from short distance on a great reaction from Straub, Miki Wagner cleared off the line from a shot of the otherwise blasé Goulet, and Achim Weber hit the right post from a shot off the top of the penalty box.

Both coaches(both incidentally coaching their first official match for their clubs) were not overly happy with the draw. WSV chief Wolfgang Jerat was especially unhappy with the missed chances his players lost between the 15. and 45. minutes. "We should have won, but in the 2nd half, we were in danger of even losing the match. Nevertheless, the demonstarted performances at least give me something to be optimistic about for the coming tasks."
The WSV coach was especially angry about the missing realease for Daniel Simmes, a player that he was counting on. "That is an outrage from the DFB, who are apparently only interested in licensed (i.e full-pro) clubs, and doesn't pay attention to Regionalligists. After all, his release has been obtained from Lierse and the Belgian Association for over a week".

Also, the following note from: Frank Schroeter (schroeti@tfh-berlin.de):
