Rudi Gores

Gores was a contraversial choice as coach for WSV, taking over from Karl-Heinz "Ali" Höfer in November of 1997. Not only was his last coaching job with Rot-Weiss Essen, arch enemy of WSV, but he was noted for a conservative style. Initially, he had some success, and WSV was at least able to get out of the relegation mire.

However, by the end of the 1st half of the 98-99 season, Gores was clearly in the hot seat. Two disgraceful defeats, a 0-6 home loss to Siegen and a 0-5 ass whipping in Verl sealed his fate, and he was fired, replaced by Assistant coach Roman Geschlecht.
