Aurel Panait is one of the most technically skilled players on WSV. He had
a strong impact on play when arriving from Romania almost 2 seasons ago.
However, this all drew attention of other teams, and he eventually
transferred to 2.Liga club FSV Mainz. Despite some decent performances in
Mainz, he was unable to win a consistent starting role in the 2.Liga, and
Wuppertal wanted him back. So Mainz agreed to loan him back to WSV, along
with an option to purchase back his contract. Apparently WSV has decided
not to excercise this option, so at the end of the 98-99 season, Panait
will again be in Mainz.
As a playmaking midfielder, Panait is sorely needed to show some
of technical skill that he had in Romania for WSV to rise from the
doldrums.
