Well, it seems like everyone puts down aspects of their lives on a web page nowadays. So, being part lemming, lets go... After working in the same place for several years, a cushy safe, stable, low paying, little rewards job, fate told me to get my act together and be an adult. Never mind I was constantly stressed out. So I took a job with all the adult perks, like a 401K plan. It really had little to do with the grey hairs that have been appearing, or the crows feet that are no longer cute. Plus it allowed me to live my dream....being a geek, be surrounded by geeks and being lulled by the gentle hum of many many computers. I work in San Francisco now, totally different from the lovely country environment of Calistoga. During the hustle and bustle of everyday, I have quickly discovered life is a bit different in the big city. But I am learning.... Update: today was my year anniversary at this job. Amazingly, I still love it. I think its because of the cool people I work with, nah I am sure of it. I was moved a little while ago. I got a corner cubical, with huge walls and lots of space. I now look out the 22nd floor and look down on the busy SF traffic. It only took 3 days, but the Web Department completely decorated their section. I bought a small frog in a plastic cube. (Humm, much like where I reside)No name yet, but he swims around and looks.. well like a frog.
Life - Condensed version Woman does not live by work alone, so lets include life. I have been trying to discover the city and Oakland in particular. Emeryville is growing in leaps and bounds and every time I blink there is a new large store opening up. Ikea is the latest, this store added a huge traffic jam and mobs of people trying to snap up their furniture. I withstood the pressure for one month, then caved in. The stuff is great to look at, the quality ... umm needs some work. I bought a few gardening things and will prolly pass on the rest. After only a month, the floor couches were looking a little worse for wear. I did some tech work for a local theatre company, Eastenders, back in September and had a wonderful time. They called and asked for more help this summer. Its good to be back in theatre! Going diving again, after a long break. More on that if I survive Tim has a Palm Pilot. He talks about it. A lot. So I wrote a haiku in his honour.
Bart is a rail system that is pretty darn convenient around here. You get into a small, dank tube with other people and the tube sometimes moves. Eventually, the tube is at a good location for you (at least better than when you got on) then you get off the tube and pay to get out of the station. Clever, you don't pay to get in, you pay to get out. During your Bart experience, you meet local characters, understand the beauty of orange fabric and discover that many men still wear Brutetm Also, at night, although still simple to use, Bart is skanky.
There are so many good restaurants down here! I am discovering them all slowly. I was shown one, Tau La, a yummy diner, where the atmosphere only slightly overshadowed the food. You just keep walking down Market street, till you step over 5 people, turn left and there you are! I found a Thai place! Two in fact. One for sit down, another for take out, right next to each other. Things are looking up. Fave Mexican (this month) less than a block away. With 17 different salsa's. Really good. The name? Ask nicely. Reds Java Hut, beer and a huge hot dog( hamburger.. whatever.) Two bucks and a fantastic view of the ocean. Its been there for years and right next to the Bay Bridge! Sam Wo's, chinese food meets funky.. well just plain funky Brennans, Clam chowder on Friday. I can't walk down the street without passing a Starbucks. Eventually, I started counting them. Then realized I might be counting some stores twice, so I am making a list, checking it twice and seeing how many there really are in a 1 mile radius of the S.F. Financial District. My guess is 18, lets see
To be filled when I finally get to play. No, this is not a hint.. not at all. You shouldn't feel guilty about reading this if you have promised for years... Yeah I got cats, like I am going to put pictures up and discuss them with you. Come on. 1
The city always refers to San Francisco. Always.
